Yoga for Depression
Taster Workshop

Friday, September 25, 2026
Studio Ganghofer 80, Munich

Depression can manifest in many ways.

Sometimes it appears as deep exhaustion. Sometimes as inner emptiness, lack of drive, or the feeling of having lost connection to oneself. Even things that used to bring joy can suddenly feel difficult.

Many affected individuals are familiar with well-intentioned advice like: “Just go for a walk,” “Meet up with friends,” or “Do something that makes you feel good.” But that’s often the problem: you might know what could help – and still can’t manage to do it.

Depression is not a matter of willpower.

It affects the body, nervous system, emotions, and thoughts equally.

Yoga can be valuable support here.

Not as a substitute for therapy or medical treatment, but as a complementary path to find more connection to one’s own body, breath, and oneself again.

Gentle paths to more stability, connection, and joy of life

Depression affects not only our thoughts and feelings. It often manifests in the body as well: as exhaustion, lack of drive, inner restlessness, sleep problems, or the feeling of no longer being truly connected to oneself.

Many people experience that while they understand what is good for them, they can hardly manage to implement this knowledge in everyday life. Here, yoga can be valuable support.

In this workshop, we combine gentle movement, conscious breathing, mindfulness, and elements of yoga philosophy. The goal is not performance or self-optimization, but the experience of more presence, self-compassion, and inner stability.

This workshop is aimed at people with experience of depression, anxiety, or exhaustion, as well as anyone who wants to learn about yoga as a supportive path for their mental health. No prior experience is required.

What to expect at the workshop

In this two-hour workshop, we will get to know yoga as support for depression and psychological stress. It’s not about performance, fitness, or demanding yoga exercises. Rather, we create a safe space where you can learn and try out various tools.

Together we will explore:

  • simple physical exercises for activation and regulation
  • breathing exercises that can calm or provide new energy
  • meditation and mindfulness
  • impulses from yoga philosophy for dealing with difficult times
  • ways to integrate yoga into your daily life

There will also be time for exchange, questions, and personal experiences.

Why Yoga for Depression?

Depression is often understood as a mental illness – and it is.

At the same time, many affected individuals experience the effects very clearly in their bodies:

  • Fatigue and exhaustion
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Inner restlessness
  • Tension
  • The feeling of being cut off from one’s own body
  • Lack of energy and motivation

Yoga works precisely at this interface between body and psyche.

Through movement, breath, and conscious perception, access to one’s own resources can be re-established.

Many people report that yoga helps them to

  • feel more alive again
  • break out of rumination loops
  • strengthen the connection to their own body
  • develop more self-compassion
  • experience small moments of calm and lightness

Who is this module suitable for?

This workshop is aimed at people

  • who suffer from depression or depressive moods
  • who feel exhausted or permanently stressed
  • who suffer from anxiety or inner restlessness
  • who want to learn about yoga as support for their mental health
  • who are looking for a gentle, appreciative approach to yoga

No prior yoga experience is required.
